Individual-based modelling of the Covid-19 pandemic and its control

Luc Coffeng is a mathematical modeller and assistant professor at the Department of Public Health of Erasmus MC Rotterdam. In his work, he primarily focussed on developing mathematical models (often individual-based) for the transmission and control of infectious diseases, notably neglected tropical infectious diseases. As of 2020, he has been modelling COVID-19 to compare various exit strategies for the Netherlands.

Pasquale will give a presentation titled:

Individual-based modelling of the Covid-19 pandemic and its control

Mathematical models for transmission have become central to informing COVID-19-related policy. To develop an evidence base for an optimal control strategy, it is important that mathematical models capture heterogeneities that are essential to COVID-19 epidemiology and control. We will discuss several modelling approaches, elaborating on an individual-based model for geographical heterogeneity in transmission. For the curious ones: a sample of the predicted outcomes of several exit strategies can be explored here.
